The Short Answer: 6 Hours

Licensed auctioneers and associate auctioneers renewing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) complete 6 hours of approved continuing education each renewal cycle. The hours must come from a TDLR-approved provider, and at least 2 of the 6 hours must cover Texas auctioneer law and TDLR rules.

The 2 Mandatory Law-and-Rules Hours

These two hours are the non-negotiable core of the requirement. They cover the legal framework every Texas auctioneer operates under:

• Occupations Code Chapter 1802 — the statute governing auctioneer licensing, registration, advertising, and the Auctioneer Education and Recovery Fund.
• 16 TAC Chapter 67 — the TDLR administrative rules that put the statute into practice, plus relevant consumer-protection law such as the UCC and DTPA as they apply to auctions.
