The good news: Texas approves online continuing education for structural licensees, and it counts the same as classroom credit when the course is properly approved. Here is how to use it well.

TDA approves structural CEU courses in multiple formats, including online self-paced training. An approved online course carries a TDA course number just like a live seminar, and you can verify any course in the TDA CEU course search before paying. If a course is not in the search, its certificate will not save you at renewal time — check first.

For Technicians, Online Hours Are the Easy Proof

The technician requirement is 8 hours of verifiable training per calendar year, and the operative word is verifiable. In-house training can count, but it lives and dies on documentation. An approved online class produces a certificate with your name, the course number, and the date — the kind of proof that survives an audit without anyone digging through a training binder.

For Certified Applicators, Watch the Credit Types

Online or not, your credits still have to land in the right buckets: 1 CEU per certified category plus 2 general CEUs, with at least one general credit in laws, pesticide safety, environmental protection, or IPM. When you shop online CE, confirm the class is approved for the specific credit you need — a category credit does not cover the general requirement, and vice versa.

Mind the Calendar Year

Online convenience creates one trap: procrastination. Structural credits count by calendar year, earned the year before you renew. The applicator who plans to "knock it out over the holidays" is one busy December from a compliance gap. Online courses remove every excuse to wait — use that.
